There is a misconception in the world of fashion that shopping sustainably equates to paying higher prices for quality clothing. However, that is not always the case. At Do Good Co. we provide an affordable option to shopping sustainably. By selling merchandise destined for liquidation from corporate donors or gently worn clothing from private donors we are able to lessen the negative environmental impacts of the fashion industry. In addition, Do Good Co. donates its profits right back to the community through partnerships with KC Pet Project and Kids TLC.
“While our first priority is to improve the lives of kids and pets, I also love that we’re able to offer an environmentally responsible option for retail in Kansas City,” said Krystal Piña of Do Good Co. “Fashion doesn’t have to be frivolous; it can be an opportunity for a new story. I love it when I see someone discover something special and offer it a new life!”
As entrepreneurs, consumers and human beings, we can choose to take steps to positively impact the world around us or we can sit back and let our inaction have negative consequences. Individuals across Kansas City are dedicated to choosing action.
“Every item we purchase as consumers leaves a footprint, when we choose to shop second hand, that has a powerful impact both socially and environmentally,” said Lexi Driggs, native Kansas Citian and owner of Market Collective. “Shopping second hand and vintage pieces is a win-win situation. Generally, you get more unique, better quality pieces for your money and you’re choosing to support small businesses and the local economy.”
How can you support sustainable fashion? By donating and shopping at Do Good Co., you are participating in the movement to make retail more responsible. Donating, and shopping, can be done during business hours Wednesday through Saturday 11-7pm and Sunday 12-5pm.
So next time you feel the urge to spruce up your wardrobe, remember there are ways to do so while doing good!
